Since our last blog in May the site has seen some change of personnel, with Tom and Honia leaving and Alison and Phil replacing them followed by Alison also leaving to take on a job at Epping Forest. A new rabbit, Skittles was adopted and, along with Patch has since been re-homed.

The interveening months between posts has also seen the usual turnover of volunteers with many old faces of the graduate trainee scheme moving into employment in the sector (some with LWT) to be replaced by new, young, eager volunteers keen to develop their skills and experience.

Enric has returned to Camley street and has been instrumental in building a new Clay Oven at the North end of the park which was christened recently with a feast of pheasant and wood pigeon.

The new Kings Cross development is also set to see a greater interest and larger numbers of visitors to the site making the future of Camley Street look exciting.

Playscheme recycle for Wildlife

Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! Come along and learn how you can make a difference to your environment. Workshops on composting and making a wormery will help you discover how to recycle your green waste, whilst hands-on sessions on creating wildlife habitats out of unusual household objects will be a real eye opener.

Frog Day and Step into Spring               

Since we saw our last blog we have celebrated Frog Day and Step into Spring. Firstly frog Day we had a massive turn out and a lot of fun was had. As with Step into Spring. Next up is the Easter Play scheme where you can partake in different activities.

Spring is here so the volunteers decided to do a bit of spring cleaning. Plus the general  maintenance. We have seen people from people from Kensington Primary School and London Walking. We covered the pond to protect the Frog Spawn.

We are preparing for Step into Spring on the 21st March. 

It’s time to awaken from hibernation and discover a whole new world of spring flowers and baby animals. Join us at Camley Street to appreciate the joys of spring and improve your knowledge of nature, at our ‘Step into Spring’ event.

The skies are getting bluer, the grass in getting greener, birds are singing in the trees, and everywhere you look flowers are bursting into bloom. Come to Camley Street for a dose of spring fever, and join in the fun as we identify the first wild flowers, spot nesting birds, learn about spring plants and animals, explore the spring nature trail and get creative with spring arts and crafts.

The event is free and suitable for children and adults of all ages; under 18s should be accompanied by an adult.

Frog Day  is  our next must-come event!

London Wildlife Trust has been celebrating Frog Day for over twenty years and we would love you to hop along and join us this year for even more fun.

Visitors will learn how to tell the difference between frogs and toads and who else lives with them in the pond. 

A practical pond-dipping session will also take place.

The Winter Half Term Play scheme has been running since 16^th February and Camley Street classroom has been geared up for the occasion with lots of educational material on food growing.

The Happy 200^th Birthday Charles Darwin event on 14th February organised by Luca was a big success with an amazing 52 visitors!

Kids and families along had fun exploring Darwin’s discoveries by using microscopes to examine miniature life-forms and an educational video has been showing all day long in the classroom. The video, featuring documentaries presenter David Attenborough is a six minute video on the evolutionary ‘tree of life’. 

 We are currently gearing up for our next event “Eco-Friendly food”,

This other amazing event is designed to help people identifying eco-friendly food and choose a healthier approach to eating. Visitors will be provided useful advice to help them feel healthier, safer and more informed about growing their own, or purchasing eco friendly food.

Eco-Friendly food will take place on February 21^st from 10am to 3pm.

Did you know that pigeons can fly as fast as 100 miles per hour?  Or that a duck’s quack has no echo? If you want to find out more about our feathered friends then come along to Camley Street Natural Park on the 24th January from 10.00-16.00 for our Bird Bonanza event! Join in the fun activities and learn about the birds in your garden and local park. 

The London Wildlife Trust and BBC Breathing Spaces are working together to give people the chance to “Do one thing for nature” Our bird expert Cassie Woods has been  sourcing very interesting bird-themed family-friendly activities so that all visitors can discover more about London’s bird life! Activities will range from bird boxes making, nature trails and lots of arts and crafts.
